these terms are between you and Caccamedia LLC, a North Carolina limited liability company that operates chapter lock ("we," "us," or "our"). by using chapter lock, you agree to these terms. if you do not agree, do not use the app.
what chapter lock does
chapter lock helps you replace scrolling with reading. You set a reading goal, choose distracting apps or web domains, and chapter lock uses Apple's screen-time tools to block those distractions until your goal is met.
chapter lock is a habit tool, not a medical, mental health, educational, or emergency service. We cannot guarantee that it will change your behavior, improve your wellbeing, or block every distraction in every situation.
who can use chapter lock
You must be at least 13 years old to use chapter lock. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use chapter lock only with permission from a parent or legal guardian.
You are responsible for your device, your Apple account, your reading data, and the choices you make in the app.
subscriptions and purchases
Some chapter lock features may require a paid subscription or other in-app purchase. Purchases are handled through Apple's App Store and may be supported by RevenueCat.
If you buy a subscription:
- payment is charged to your Apple account.
- subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel through Apple before the renewal deadline shown by Apple.
- trials, introductory offers, and offer codes are subject to Apple's rules and availability.
- cancellation, billing changes, and refunds are handled by Apple, not directly by chapter lock.
Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Manage subscriptions in your Apple account settings.
We may change pricing, plans, trials, or included features in the future. Any changes will follow applicable law and Apple's App Store rules.
your content and reading data
You keep ownership of the reading notes, ratings, lists, and other content you enter into chapter lock.
You give chapter lock permission to store, display, process, and use that content only as needed to provide the app features you choose, such as showing your library, tracking progress, recognizing a book cover, or restoring purchase access.
Do not enter content that you do not have the right to use, or content that is illegal, abusive, invasive of privacy, or harmful to others.
acceptable use
Do not misuse chapter lock. For example, do not:
- try to break, reverse engineer, overload, or interfere with the app, website, API, or payment systems.
- use chapter lock for illegal activity.
- bypass subscription checks or App Store purchase rules.
- use automation or scraping against chapter lock systems without permission.
- upload images or content that violates someone else's rights.
We may limit or end access if we reasonably believe these terms are being violated or if we need to protect chapter lock, users, or service providers.
screen-time blocking limits
chapter lock depends on Apple permissions, Family Controls, DeviceActivity, ManagedSettings, your device settings, your selected apps, and iOS behavior. Blocking can fail, pause, or behave differently if permissions are revoked, iOS changes, apps change identifiers, your device is offline, you use another device, or Apple limits the underlying APIs.
You are responsible for deciding which apps to block and for keeping access to anything important, urgent, or safety-related.
book search and recognition
chapter lock may help you find books by search text or by a photo you choose to scan. Book metadata can come from external sources or chapter lock's API and may be incomplete, inaccurate, or unavailable.
You are responsible for checking book details before relying on them. chapter lock does not guarantee any book data, cover image, page count, author listing, or recognition result.
privacy

changes to the app
chapter lock is early and may change. We may add, remove, pause, rename, or modify features. We may also stop offering the app or website. If a paid feature materially changes, we will handle that change in a way that follows applicable law and Apple's App Store rules.
third-party services
chapter lock relies on third-party services and platforms, including Apple, RevenueCat, PostHog, hosting providers, and book-data sources. Their services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
We are not responsible for third-party services, outages, decisions, content, policies, or fees.
disclaimers
chapter lock is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent allowed by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, availability, accuracy, and uninterrupted operation.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
limitation of liability
to the fullest extent allowed by law, Caccamedia LLC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, lost goodwill, device issues, subscription platform issues, or inability to use the app.
To the fullest extent allowed by law, our total liability for any claim related to chapter lock is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for chapter lock in the 12 months before the claim or $100.
indemnity
If your misuse of chapter lock, violation of these terms, or violation of someone else's rights causes a claim against us, you agree to defend and indemnify us to the extent allowed by law.
governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of North Carolina, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts located in North Carolina will have exclusive jurisdiction for disputes that cannot be resolved informally, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
termination
You can stop using chapter lock at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these terms, create risk, or if the app is discontinued.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including ownership, payment obligations, disclaimers, limits of liability, indemnity, and governing law.
